Holidays - week one

Well this week went unusually fast for the first week of the school holidays and especially so considering I was ready to kill the children by 4pm last Friday, I didnt achieve anything I set out to, The Husband is trying to give up smoking and my mother came to stay for 4 days.
The World through the eyes of a giant sheep...
So Mum's intention was to get a fix of the grandchildren in a relaxing country atmosphere so of course we immediately left the bush and went town-wards to play tourist in 'little-big smoke' aka Goulburn for the day.

Goulburn is not only the first inland city but it's also home of the lovely Candy from ‘Candy’s Family’ and her tribe of children whom I occasionally bump into in the bread isle at Aldi.

We drove around a bit but the weather was terrible and we got lost twice and ended up hungry, we decided to skip the golden arches for once and ate at a fancy looking bakery called ‘Trappers’ who’s food and coffee well and truly lived up to the abundance of ‘Award Winner’ signs posted all over the outside of the building.

I was surprised when sitting in said bakery and quickly glancing at Twitter (damn addiction) that the lovely ‘Glowless’ from ‘Where’s My Glow?’ had put up my ‘He did what? Wednesday’ post – thanks Glowy! – And then had to hide my surprised “oh wow” from my mother, who doesn’t know (and hopefully never will) that I write a blog....
Before heading home, we visited Rambo, the quite anatomically correct giant sheep also known as ‘The Big Marino’, the kids loved it, running up and down the stairs yelling and screaming repeatedly. It turns out that the hollow inner shell of a giant ram makes for the most fantastic accoustics. The lady at the gift shop was suitably unimpressed, but humoured us with a half smile when we spent $1 on a postcard as we were leaving.
I'm so mature

One week down, one to go...  What have you been up to this school holidays?

The Lazy Post

image
So I wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy  an icicle, both the fires have gone out, it’s freezing cold and I’m pretty sure if I look out the window I will see a mammoth, a sloth and a baby staring at me.
Today is also Friday, Friday the day before the weekend, weekend and frankly, today I don’t feel like doing anything, nothing at all. Well apart from seeing how many songs and movies I can plagerise within the first two paragraphs of this post that is.
But alas for me it’s going to be a busy one. Friends for lunch, others for dinner, SIL+BIL tomorrow for lunch, MIL+FIL for afternoon tea, somewhere in that I need to fit in an 80km round trip to the shops and try to stop myself buying chocolate- then I need to have the strength to throw away any chocolate that I do buy. Work on Sunday where I must stop myself buying Mc Donald’s for lunch. Ugh.
Something about school holidays just makes me want to sleep in and do nothing. Even though the kids wake up at 5am regardless, part of me reverts back to my teenage school girl self and I simply can’t get out of bed.
I lie here thinking about how I should get up and light the fires, make some bread, feed the chooks, tidy the house for today’s first wave of visitors, you know productive stuff. But instead I roll over making sure to keep the warm doona over my shoulders and pluck my lap top from my bedside table and start reading blog posts and yelling things like ‘stop fighting!’, ‘share!’ and ‘do you want your friends to come over or not?’ from beneath my doona. Oh that’s class act parenting right there.
I’m a procrastinator from way back, so in my usual fashion rather than facing the day, I decided to type this blog post about nothing at all.
What type of person are you? Do you procrastinate or sieze the day? Are you reading this from bed too or were you up at 5am going for a jog?
To make it feel like I am doing something, let’s call this a Blog Flog (see, sounds much more energetic) and add it to FlogYoBlog Friday, hosted of course by Glowless, head over there and link yourself up!

Life's a Beach

The kiddos, The Mother In Law & I went for a drive the other day,
We ended up here:
It was freezing when we left home and so with no intentions of swimming I didn’t take towels or a spare change of clothes.
Silly I know.

Turns out it was a perfect beach going day after all so the children rolled up their pants and took off their shoes.

And got totally soaked anyway!

So we dried their clothes on the rocks while they swam in their undies and picked up shells.

The Mother In Laws Pug had a blast too, he makes odd noises when he is excited, sounds a bit like a squeaky toy.
Hot fish & chips at the park for dinner, the perfect end to a perfect day.
